I made this pair of boots for the people who are always on their feet - the leather is hand-cut and shaped one panel at a time, the stitching worked seam by seam along every edge, the whole surface finished slowly until the leather holds every mark of the making.
The ones who come back to me wearing this pair always say the same thing: their steps stopped reminding them quite so often.
This is one of the last pairs I'll make before I close my workshop for good. I hope they find the feet that need them most.
How do I care for real leather?
How do I care for real leather?
Not much, and not often. That's the point of real leather.
Wipe them down. Knock the dirt off with a dry brush or a damp cloth after a hard day. Dirt left in the creases is what cracks leather, not wear.
Condition two or three times a year. A good leather conditioner or boot oil, worked in with your hands, is all it takes. If the leather looks thirsty or feels stiff, it's time. Don't overdo it — soaking them soft does more harm than a dry spell.
Resole them, don't replace them. These are Goodyear welted, which means when the outsole finally wears through, any cobbler can put a new one on and you're back to where you started. Take care of them and they'll outlast you.

30 days, no questions asked. If they don't fit, or you just decide they're not for you, send them back within 30 days for a full refund. No restocking fee, no forms, no arguing.
Real leather, built to last a generation. Full-grain leather, leather insole and midsole, Goodyear welt — stitched, never glued. These aren't made to get you through a season. They're made to be resoled and handed down.

A Small Way to Help James. An Amazing Pair of Handmade Shoes.
"I heard about James's closing sale and ordered a pair shipped to New York as one small way to help him out. I wasn't expecting handmade shoes this good — the leather feels beautiful and the stitching is so neat. They fit great, and I'm really glad I got a pair before his shop closes."
Robert M.
"I stopped by the closing sale because I wanted to help James after everything he'd been through. Came home with handmade leather shoes so beautifully finished that I went back for a second pair."
Daniel T.
"I ordered from James's website to show some support before he closed the shop. The shoes he made by hand are incredible — the leather feels lovely, and every stitch is neat."
Michael H.
"I bought a pair during the sale because I wanted James to know his community still cared. After wearing them, I'm only sorry I didn't discover his handmade shoes years ago — the quality is amazing."
Thomas B.
"I ordered some boots shipped to Massachusetts to support the old man during his closing sale. They're the nicest pair I've ever owned, with sturdy soles and beautifully finished leather. Knowing James made them by hand makes me appreciate them even more."
David P.
About James Witfield
Every pair that left these shelves started with the same intention: to put something honest on your feet — built to be worked in, not looked at.
James Witfield learned the trade from his father — on a stool behind the register, measuring feet with the same cold Brannock device, until the watching turned into forty-one years of his own. What started as a boy doing homework behind the counter became a life spent fitting half this town's feet.
Every fitting mattered, because the people who walked in under that bell deserved a shoe man who knew exactly what he was putting on their feet.
There are only so many pairs left. Once the doors close, they're gone for good.
FAQ's
What payment methods do you accept?
You can pay safely and easily. I accept Amex, Maestro, Visa, MasterCard, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and PayPal.
How long does shipping take?
United States: 5–10 business days.
Free shipping on all orders.
Once your order ships, you’ll receive a tracking number by email so you can follow its journey to your door.
How do I choose the correct size?
Our shoes are designed to fit true to size, so we recommend ordering the size you normally wear.
If you’re between sizes or have wider feet, choose the larger size for a more comfortable fit. You can also check the size guide on the product page before ordering.
If the fit still isn’t right, you can exchange them for another size.
Will the shoes feel comfortable straight away?
Real leather naturally softens and shapes itself around your feet over time. Your shoes may feel slightly firm during the first few wears, but they should never feel painfully tight.
After a short break-in period, the leather becomes softer and the fit feels increasingly personal to your foot.
How should I care for my leather shoes?
Wipe away dirt with a soft, dry cloth and occasionally apply a quality leather conditioner to prevent the leather from drying out.
Allow wet shoes to dry naturally at room temperature. Avoid placing them beside a heater or using a hair dryer, as strong heat can damage the leather.
With a little care, your shoes will continue looking better with age.
What if I order the wrong size?
Don’t worry. Contact us and we’ll help you arrange a size exchange.
We want you to feel confident and comfortable in your shoes, so we’ll make the process as straightforward as possible.
How can I track my order?
As soon as your order leaves our warehouse, we’ll email you a shipping confirmation containing your tracking number.
Tracking may take a short time to update after the parcel has been handed to the carrier.
Are the shoes waterproof?
Real leather naturally provides some protection against light moisture, but the shoes are not completely waterproof unless specifically stated on the product page.
We recommend applying a leather-safe water-protection spray before wearing them in heavy rain. Always allow wet leather to dry naturally.
I’ve bought “leather” shoes before. What makes these different?
Many shoes advertised as leather use mostly synthetic material with only a thin leather coating or small leather sections.
Our shoes are made with 100% real leather—not imitation leather or cheap plastic material. Real leather is stronger, more breathable and becomes more comfortable and full of character as you wear it.
With proper care, these are shoes you can rely on for years—not just one season.
100% Real Leather Smell
Open the box and you'll know instantly — the rich, authentic scent of genuine full-grain leather, never a synthetic imitation.
